October 31st
Etiquette day sign-in sheets were due in class today. Students who did not have it can turn it in late for less points on Thursday and Friday, but will not be taken after then. Students had a journal entry today and a lesson on attitudes. We dicussed what influences their attitudes, what we can do to change our attitudes for the better and read some quotes relating to attitudes. Students then watch and answered questions on a video entitled "Get a winning attitude."

October 26th
Students discussed their experience at La Caille and learning about etiquette, in general. They were praised for their nice appearance and good behavior. They were also asked to turn in their etiquette day paper from yesterday if they had it with them. This will be due on Wednesday. They were then excused to the science film.

October 25th
Today was Etiquette day! The students were given instructions and a sheet to go with this yesterday. This needs to be turned in by Wednesday at the end of class, but they can turn it in earlier. We also went through the expectations of students when riding on a bus, eating around others, etc. We also watched a short video on La Caille and dining etiquette. Also, today was the last day that I would take extra credit, late and missing assignments.

October 24th
Students were reminded about the deadline for late/missing work and extra credit, which is tomorrow! We also provided students with the corect answers to the brainteasers and found the student who had gotten the most correct to earn a candy bar. We then passed out the papers for Etiquette day and explained what it was. Students will take their paper with them to all of their classes tomorrow and will be scored in 5 areas by each of their teachers. They will be scored on politeness to other students and adults, cleaning up after themselves, appropriate language and use of proper manners. They will also earn extra credit for dressing up in their "Sunday best" for each of their classes. This activity is for all Teen Living and Foods I students, not just those attending La Caille. This will be due on Wednesday, October 31st, which is thee next day this class will meet. Students were encouraged to turn this in Thursday after school or Friday morning to the class turn-in basket or my box in the office so that they will not lose it or forget about it overr the long weekend. Extra forms are in a folder pasted to the window by my door if they misplace their's. Students who were absent today can pick up their paper from me. We then spent the last few minutes of class talking about phone and cell phone do's and don'ts.

October 23rd
Students had a journal entry, followed by a scenerio about survivors from an ocean liner sinking. They are in a life boat and have to make a choice who they would get rid of first and second if they had to to survive. We then discussed their choices and reasons why, what communication and critical thinking skills they used and if they would have made different choices. We discussed stereotypes, diversity and workplace skills as well.

October 22nd
Students met in the foods room today for a group activity. They partnered up and were given a scenerio about hot air ballooning over the Rockies. They had to decide what pieces of equipment they would throw out 1st, 2nd, ect. to use their critical thinking and communication skills. They were then put onto teams and had to do the same thing, but this time they had to take into account the opinions of everyone in the group. We then compared this to the workplace and working with others to solve problems.

October 19th
Students discussed the importance of critical thinking and discovered ways to build and use critical thinking skills. Students learned about current research being done on dementia and Alzheimer's and what they can start doing now to help prevent the disease later on in life. Students were shown 3-D images and were also given brainteasers to work on over the weekend. Answers will be provided to the students sometime next week. There is a prize for the student who has the most correct. Also, students will be meeting in room AT 113 (foods room) on Monday and Tuesday of next week for some group activities dealing with critical thinking.

October 18th
Reminders to students: All extra credit and missing/late assignments are due a week from today on Thursday, October 25th. This is also the day of the La Caille dinner and Etiquette day for all the Ten Living students. We will also be changing rooms to AT 113 (foods room) on Monday and Tuesday since we will need the tables for two group activities. Students learned the steps to the critical thinking process and discovered how they learned to form opinions, as well as how they had formed their opinions thus far. They read one of two stories about Julio and Silvia and had to answer a set of questions based on the story they read. If they completed both stories they earned extra credit.

Students learned about the conflict resolution process and were given tips and tricks to use when dealing with a conflict. This lesson will lead us in to leaning about critical thinking skills tomorrow. Students will then apply these skills to a variety of situations they will need to solve as a partnership or group next week.

Students discussed and read about the dangers of gossip and it's effects on people. We read the story "Confessions of a Teenage Gossip" and answered questions based on the research and information in the article. Students kept this sheet to refer back to later.

October 12th
Students discussed bad speaking habits people have when communicating verbally and how the listener may be adding to the problem. We also learned about the Five Love Languages and found out which of the five each student tends to use more. Students were also reminded about La Caille receipts and permission forms which are due on Monday and have been daily for the past two weeks.

Students not only discussed listening skills, but how to actively listen and why it is important. Listening activities were also done in class to learn about listening to directions the first time, the importance of asking questions when something is not understood, and listening to what is going on around them.

Students today had a journal entry related to Reality Town. I then gave them reminders about late work cut off dates are two weeks after an assignment is due and they must have a late pass attached or points will be deducted from the score. Also, students were notified that the last day to turn in late or missing assignments and extra credit is OCTOBER 25th DURING class. No assignments or extra credit will be accepted after this day. Students were then released for Reality Town.

Students continued with the communication unit. Today, they learned about and compared a hammer to destructive and constructive communication. A class note page was provided to the students to write notes on.

October 4th
Students met with the Foods and Nutrition class to watch a presentation from our guest speaker from La Caille today. She discussed and demonstrated proper etiquette procedures students would use on dates and when dining out. Students are also taking an optional field trip on October 25th after school to La Caille. Parents are also invited to attend. The dinner is $31.00 per person and must be paid to the office by October 15th. Students will then take their receipt and permission form to class and turn it into the basket by 3:00 p.m. on that day to be added to the list and the count. Reservations will be made that day at 3:00 and no additions or subtractions can be made.

Students continued with the communication unit. They discussed the differences between child like, parent like and adult like forms of communication. Students were provided a note taking guide, which did not need to be turned in.

October 2nd
Today we started our communication unit and we will be working on it through the next two weeks. Today, they learned the differences between interpersonal and intrapersonal communication. They also had to be able to describe how they communicate best with others and why. Class notes were written on a paper provided by the teacher.

Students corrected their mid-term test today. Scores will be posted ASAP. Student portfolios for student-led conferences were also put together. The students will be starting the communication unit tomorrow.
